ASPIRIN COULD REDUCE RISK OF PRE-ECLAMPSIA
(www.thelancet.com published online May 17, 2007)
The Aspirin Foundation welcomes this confirmation of the value
of aspirin in certain complications of pregnancy. This is a subject
which has been reported on a number of occasions with some results
less positive than others.
The meta-analysis method of reviewing a range of clinical trials
has confirmed that there is a positive benefit for certain women
at risk of complications in pregnancy.
In accordance with the aspirin labelling, the Aspirin Foundation
continue to advocate that pregnant women speak to their physician
before aspirin use.
Aspirin should not be taken in the third trimester and only in
the first and second trimester regularly on medical advice. Aspirin
should not be taken when breast-feeding except under supervision
of a doctor.
