Prof Bo Norrving discusses the transformation of stroke medicine
Neurologist Professor Bo Norrving has witnessed the transformation of stroke medicine over the course of his career. When he started out as a doctor in Lund, Sweden, there was not much that could be done to prevent or treat stroke. Then Norrving and his team constructed the ground-breaking Swedish Aspirin Low-dose Trial (SALT) which showed a significant reduction in stroke recurrence by using aspirin at very low-dose levels. In this conversation with health journalist Pennie Taylor Professor Norrving, recipient of IAF’s Senior Science Award 2020, recalls the birth of evidence-based medicine and discusses the global impact of the SALT findings.
