Emerging Aspirin Investigator Award 2020

Early career scientists with an interest in aspirin are invited to apply for the International Aspirin Foundation’s Emerging Aspirin Investigator Science Award 2020.

The award is open to junior scientists in the early stages of their research career, within ten working years of their doctoral degree.

Candidates must be the first author on an aspirin related paper published from 2018 onwards and must be contributing to the knowledge of aspirin through original independent scientific research in the field of experimental and/or clinical medicine.

Applicants are asked to email their published paper alongside a 500-word statement supported by the group leader of the department where their work is performed by the deadline of 31 May 2020 to ScienceAward@aspirin-foundation.com.

Supported by GL Pharma GmbH, the winning entrant will receive a £1000 endowment plus a travel and accommodation bursary.

A report will be produced to highlight the winning entry, together with a summary of the candidate’s work, and the successful applicant should be available to present their work during an Award Ceremony in the prestigious Ether Dome Amphitheatre at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston on 28th September 2020.


Emerging Investigator Award Criteria

  • Open to junior scientists who are in the early stages of their research career:
  • Within 10 working years of their doctoral (MD/PhD) degree;
  • Not beyond assistant professor level;
  • Who are contributing, or who have been contributing, to the knowledge of aspirin through original independent scientific research in the field of experimental and/or clinical medicine.
  • Candidates should be the first author on an aspirin-related paper published in the last 2 years i.e. from 2018 onwards
  • The applicant needs to produce a statement (maximum 500 words), submitted in English, via email to ScienceAward@aspirin-foundation.com, which is supported by the group leader of the department where the scientist’s work is performed and also submit a copy of the published paper

Where a member of the Scientific Advisory Board has a conflict of interest (i.e. a mentor of the candidate) he/she will not participate in scoring any entrants.

In all matters pertaining to the Award, the decision of the Chair of the SAB is final.

Deadline for receipt of applications is 31st May 2020. Applications will be reviewed by the International Aspirin Foundation Scientific Advisory Board who will reach their decision at the June Board Meeting.

The successful applicant should be available to present his/her work during the Award Ceremony in September 2020 in Boston USA.

A report will be produced to highlight the successful awardee’s work, together with a summary of all the candidates’ work.
