Matthias Endres is Professor and Chair of Neurology at the Charité Hospital in Berlin. Together with Ulrich Dirnagl he is also the founding Director of the Center for Stroke Research Berlin. His major research interests are preventive vascular mechanisms, mechanisms of cell death, regeneration and functional outcome, heart-brain interaction, post-stroke depression, and telemedicine. Matthias Endres is author of more than 500 research articles, reviews, and editorials. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and Visiting Professor at the University of Oxford, U.K. In addition, he is coordinator of clinical research at the Berlin site of the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases, primary investigator of the ExcellenceCluster NeuroCure, the German Center for Cardiovascular Research, and the newly founded German Center of Mental Health. He is on the Editorial Board of the AHA Journal Stroke and the European Stroke Journal and on the Board of Directors of the European Academy of Neurology (EAN).
