Have something to say about aspirin?
Our biennial conference is a great opportunity to hear from leading biomedical researchers across a range of specialties. By coming together discuss the latest international data, we can enhance understanding, build stronger networks and inspire new ideas.
Professor Patrono’s main research interest is in the study of platelet activation and inhibition in atherothrombosis and colorectal cancer. His research has characterized the human pharmacology of aspirin as an inhibitor of platelet COX-1 and provided the basis for the development of low-dose aspirin as an antithrombotic agent.
He is an elected member of the Association of American Physicians, Royal College of Physicians, Academia Europaea and Accademia dei Lincei.
He has received the 2013 Grand Prix Scientifique awarded by the Institut de France for his work on low-dose aspirin.
He is a Section Editor of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and Associate Editor of the European Heart Journal.
Professor Patrono has published over 240 research articles with approximately 68,000 citations and an h-index of 107.

A centerpiece of his research involves the conduct of observational studies and trials that are imbedded in a health care system and the curation of electronic health data from many sources. He serves as one of two PIs of the Million Veteran Program (MVP), a project that will enroll one million veterans into a longitudinal cohort with stored biospecimens, self-reported data and the rich electronic clinical and administrative data available in the VA.
